Why should I care about where to stay in Bristol, we hear you ask, I already have somewhere to live. But what if you have family and friends visit? Or you just need to escape the squalor of your housemates for a weekend? Nothing beats a staycation in your own city; the opportunity to see Bristol from a new perspective.
Look no further than Artist Residence in St Paul’s if you need a hometown escape. The boutique hotel was recently named on The Times‘ 100 Best Places to Stay in Britain for 2023. While it also beat out tough competition to top the best hotels in the South West of England.
Described as “the perfect city-break hotel for the young and the young at heart,”Artist Residence is a converted boot factory in the heart of St Paul’s. It’s located close to some of Bristol’s best bars and restaurants, as well as the Harbourside and Stokes Croft. While The Times names it’s onsite red brick bar-restaurant with “oversize artwork and plush banquettes” as a highlight.
The Bristol hotel is Artist Residence’s fifth in the UK, with locations also in London, Brighton, Oxford and Cornwall. But it wasn’t the only local hotel among the best places to stay in Britain. At the Chapel, Farmyard at The Newt and Hadspen at The Newt, all in Somerset, and The Bell & Crown and The Beckford Arms, both in Wiltshire, were also namechecked.
Mollie’s Motel, just off the M5 and close to Cribbs Causeway, was another Bristol location that made the list. This is the perfect alternative for those searching for a bargain stay close by – only a 20 minute drive from the city centre. While The Queensberry Hotel in Bath is a gorgeous Georgian hotel for those seeking a trip to Bristol’s neighbouring city.
The country’s best hotel stay in next year, however, is The Retreat at Elcot Park in Berkshire. Only an hour’s drive from Bristol! Although getting a booking won’t be easy or cheap. Learn more about Artist Residence here.
