Bristol City Centre has become aglow with some fantastic light installations today (February 3), thanks to Bristol Light Festival. But it’s not the only bit of Bristol brightening up this weekend. Tomorrow (February 4), Bedminster Winter Lantern Parade takes to the streets for its annual march down North Street.
Now in its eleventh year, Bedminster Winter Lantern Parade usually takes place on the last Saturday in January. It was postponed by a week this year, due to a clash with a Bristol City FC game at Ashton Gate Stadium. So instead, this Saturday thousands of people will head to Bedminster to parade beautiful handmade lanterns through south Bristol.
Thousands of people are expected to attend the parade, which celebrates and supports the local community of Bedminster. Bedminster Winter Lantern Parade is a non-profit project that works with local schools, residents and businesses to organise the parade each year. And Year 3 pupils from local primary schools spent three months during the autumn building these beautiful, illuminating lanterns.
What is happening at Bedminster Lantern Parade 2023?
The parade will start at St Francis’ Church at 5 pm and will head down North Street before turning onto British Road and finishing at Compass Point School. It will last approximately an hour and a half. There will also be live music and street entertainment along the route, some of which will start at 4 pm. These stops will be at Tobacco Factory, CJ Hole, Storysmith, North Street Green, Zero Green, Toyville and Bedminster Pharmacy.
The party will continue once the parade finishes at Compass Point School, however, with more live music. To learn more about Bedminster Winter Lantern Parade head here.
