There’s an old Mitchell & Webb sketch, ‘A Prayer & A Pint’, about an inebriated TV presenter singing hymns in peculiar locations (it’s funnier than it sounds). In this farcical world we live in, comedy becomes reality once again, as Bristol Cathedral invites everyone to College Green for ‘Beer & Carols’.
Last year, carollers drank the bar dry, apparently, and we’re expecting this turn into the merriest event in Bristol once more this Christmas. Gathering on College Green, you can join in with the band from St Nicholas Church and the Cathedral Choir for a sing-along of timeless carols and Christmas favourites.
When is Beers & Carols?

On Thursday, December 18, grab a mulled cider or a pint from Bristol Beer Factory at a dedicated bar on College Green from 6pm. The first carol session will take place from 7pm to 8pm, with a second session from 8.15pm to 9pm (just enough time to restock on drinks in between).
You can expect to hear all your favourite carols, like Ding Dong Merrily on High, Hark! The Herald Angels Sing, and We Wish You a Merry Christmas. Plus, there will be a few modern favourites thrown in for good measure too, like Last Christmas, All I Want For Christmas Is You, and Let It Snow.
This is a completely free event with everyone welcome to join in on the singing—even if you can’t hold a tune very well—with thousands expected. Get in the festive spirit with the ultimate Christmas carol service, singing your heart out with a pint or two. It’s only what you’d be doing down the pub anyway.
