The UK Has Been Voted One Of The Best Countries In Europe For National Parks

The UK scored highly when it came to the best National Parks in Europe…

There’s nowhere we’d rather be than the Great Outdoors, especially since we’re all being asked to stay home at the moment. And as if to remind us of what we’re missing, new research from SaveOnEnergy.com/uk has been crunching the numbers to find out where the highest rated National Parks in Europe are – and whilst the UK wasn’t able to steal the crown (this time!), we did rank in the top ten amongst European countries for the beauty and splendour of our National Parks.

The Peak District.

Really, it’s no surprise; the UK National Parks span the calm waters of the Lake District, the sweeping moors of Dartmoor, and the dramatic highlands of Cairngorms National Park. The rankings were based on the average TripAdvisor rating for each National Park, and the UK’s fifteen parks scored highly, with an average ranking of 9.45. And yet, that was only good enough for tenth place on the list…

Tenth! Tenth?! *deep breaths* So, who were the nine countries that pushed our national treasures down to tenth place, then? Coming out on top, and home to the highest-ranked National Parks in Europe, is Ukraine, whose eight National Parks earned an average score of 9.73. Their champion was Carpathians National Nature Park, which admittedly doesn’t look like the worst place to spend a weekend.

Yeah, fair enough then. Third place belonged to Slovakia, Bulgaria nicked fourth, and Switzerland’s Alpine beauty helped it capture fifth place. Other high performers included Denmark (6th), Austria (7th), Czech Republic (8th), and France (9th), although since the UK has more National Parks than any other nation in the top ten, I think we can claim a moral victory here. To be honest with you, it’s also giving me a fair amount of wanderlust, so I reckon I’ll be adding the rest to my travel itinerary for, you know, whenever we can actually go and see them again…
