Expect some big names in the Bristol food scene to be there.
April 12 is the magic date on everyone’s lips and WhatsApp groups right now, as it’s finally a chance for us to socialise with another household over food and drink outdoors. One Bristol event that is adding to the April excitement is Breaking Bread, who has announced the return of their pop-up event on April 15 featuring an under-cover pub garden and tipis to dine in.
Breaking Bread, which will reopen its canopies on the Downs this month, is part of a collaboration between Bristol hospitality businesses, Pasta Loco, Pasta Ripiena, The Love Inn, The Pipe & Slippers, Team Love and The Pony & Trap. The first to reopen will be the Pipe & Lovers beer garden, which will be serving food and drink under a canopy, including a Sunday roast with plenty of hearty food.
The pop-up will reopen in two phases, with the second phase being the reopening of the Breaking Bread restaurant hosted in a tipi, a joint venture from Pasta Loco, Pasta Ripiena and the Pony & Trap, later in spring when more restrictions are lifted. The Pipe & Lovers has teased a new menu featuring classic yet sophisticated pub grub including bangers and mash, mouth-watering burgers and fries, summery salads (even one topped with a crispy boiled egg), plus sensational sides like barbecue pork ribs, fava bean hummus and pitta and bubble and squeak croquettes.
The Breaking Bread team has also announced that a 150-capacity seated entertainment tent will be added to the village, as will the Team Canteen, a fully equipped kitchen and events space that will be available for use by organisations and individuals for workshops, demos, supper clubs and events. The organisers also hope that the Team Canteen will be a useful resource for community groups and other food organisations across Bristol, plus be a space to offer training and food production, including their Breaking Bread ready meals which have been a hit during the pandemic.
The Pipe & Lovers beer garden will be open Tuesday to Friday 5pm-11pm, Saturday 12pm-11pm and Sunday 12pm-9pm, after their reopening on April 15. Advanced bookings for the Pipe & Lovers are now open and can be made here.
