Look, I don’t want to scaremonger, but it’s a scary world out there. All I see in the news is war, stock market crashes, and, what’s that, more war? I’d feel a lot safer cooped up in a bunker somewhere rather than feeling like a sitting duck in my flat. Luckily, there’s a Grade II-listed nuclear bunker up for auction in Brislington. And yes, there’s parking.
The War Room and Bunker at Flowers Hill go up for auction on Wednesday, April 13, with a guide price of £50,000. That’s pretty cheap when you consider that the property comprises 8709 sq ft of accommodation at ground (5188 sq ft) and basement level (3509 sq ft ), and an area for off-street parking for 6-8 vehicles. The War Room was previously up for a guide price of £150,000, so expect the price to climb as high as that.

Built in 1953 at the start of the Cold War, the Brislington War Room was to protect the regional government against an atomic attack. It was rented to Avon County Council, but has been left empty since 1981, and it shows. Inside, you’ll find over 24 abandoned rooms, including what looks like two bathrooms. So, it needs a lick of paint, obviously, but you’ll have this warren of rooms ready for apocalypse in no time.
Alternatively, the overall site benefits from a resolution of planning consent for the demolition of certain existing structures (to provide up to 160 residential units) and to change the use of the Grade II-listed War Room. It’s also situated on the edge of a large residential development.
How do I bid?

The live online auction is on Wednesday, April 23 at 17:30, but you’ll have to have registered by Monday, April 21 at 16:00. Registration is described as “a simple online process”, which you can do at the Hollis Morgan auction website under ‘REGISTER TO BID’ here.
