Warm weather is on its way, we hope, and all the good things that come with it. We’re talking beaches, BBQs, beer gardens, holidays, swimming, and wherever else you fancy doing to cool down. One thing we can promise you is that longer days are coming very soon, with Bristol’s first 8pm sunset of the year happening this week.
On Thursday (April 11), the sunset in Bristol takes place at 8:01pm. It’s the latest the sun has set since August 30 of last year (also at 8:01pm) and it won’t be going down this early again for another four months. That’s on August 30, 2024, when sunset’s at 8pm exactly in the city.
But there’s no need to be thinking about that yet… We’ve got plenty of glorious days ahead of us, and so many better things to occupy our minds. Outdoor dining or a pint of cider, anyone? On Tuesday, we’ll get nearly 14 hours of daylight, but this will rise close to 17 hours during the height of summer.
On the longest day of the year (June 20), the sunset in Bristol won’t happen until 9.30pm (!), while sunrise takes place at 4.53am. If you’re up that early, you’ll experience 16 hours, 37 minutes and 48 seconds of unadulterated daylight. Of course, what good’s all that sunshine, if you’ve got nothing to do?
Luckily, Bristol’s summer schedule is already looking chocka. Just some of the big events we can expect include Bristol Balloon Fiesta, Love Saves The Day, Forwards, Upfest, Bristol Sounds, Bristol Harbour Festival and many more. But if all you want to do this summer is chill at a riverside pub, can we blame you?
