Admit it: Life’s bleak this time of year. Between waking up in the dark and finishing work in the dark, a day can go by in the blink of an eye. Add the fact that it’s foggy/windy/rainy most of the time in England, and you’re lucky if you even see blue sky during the day. But finally, we have some good news. Bristol’s first sunset of the year after 6PM is upon us.
Nights by Harbourside, outdoor dining, beach trips, BBQs and Pimms. Summer. Is. Coming. And there’s no better indicator than Bristol experiencing its first sunset after 6PM of 2024 this week (March 7, 2025) – just enough time to catch some rays after work.
We haven’t experienced a sunset that late in Bristol since October 22, 2024 – what did we even do for Halloween? You won’t have to wait very long for Bristol evenings to become even more starkly brighter again, either. Thanks to a combined effort from the Earth’s tilt on its axis and Daylight Saving Time, on March 30, 2025, the sun will set at 7.40PM.
Even better, there are seven glorious, sun-filled months until the next Bristol sunset earlier than 6pm (October 24, 2025). Of course, there’s still quite a chill in the air, and it’s still very much winter spring. But let this be the news to get you excited about summer! Sit back and dream of outdoor swimming, holidays, cider pubs, and all the other feel-good feelings associated with summer.
Fun Fact: The earliest sunset of 2024 happened in mid-December at 4.01PM… so we’ve been steadily increasing since then! And the earliest sunset of 2025 is likely to happen at the same time as last year and will occur a week before the winter solstice (December 21, 2025).
