On our Doorstep Taste Tour with Deliveroo, we’ve been tapping into the insider knowledge of the inspiring foodies we’ve been meeting along the way. For the Bristol leg of the tour, this involved us and Josie Gibson sitting down for an exclusive chat with owners of Oowee Diner, Verity Foss and Charlie Watson, to find more about their culinary journeys and how their award-winning diner came to be. But as founders of their own (Deliveroo sensation!) restaurant, we couldn’t leave without asking them where they think are Bristol’s best Deliveroo spots for the perfect night in. These were their top five Bristol picks…
1. Biblos
Biblos’ Middle Eastern and Caribbean fusion menu fulfils so many of the criteria for the perfect takeaway, so we weren’t at all surprised that Verity and Charlie called them out on their list of Bristol’s best Deliveroo spots. Their customisable flatbread wraps are fresh, filling and absolutely delicious, stuffed generously with everything from jerk fried chicken and halloumi to fried plantain and tahini cauliflower. Every wrap is also topped with slaw, mooli, pickles, herbs and an array of sauces, making each bite a flavour explosion.
2. Nutmeg
An Indian takeaway with a bit of pizzazz is the best way to describe Nutmeg. Using only the highest quality ingredients from local suppliers, their dishes are all showstopping in their own right and bring a taste of rich culinary heritage from all 29 Indian states. Kashmiri lamb chop, deep fried prawns, and paneer tikka make are just some of the mouth watering staters you could kick off with, and slow-cooked, naan-sealed pots of biryani, duck chettinadu and chana masala would be a great place to start with the mains.
3. Noa Japanese
When the sushi craving kicks in, Charlie and Verity look to Noa Japanese to satisfy theirs. However, saying that, there’s much more to this menu than maki and nigiri. So if you’re sharing, you could also order gyozas, chicken karaage, fresh seaweed salad, donburi rice bowls and so much more to accompany your sushi. There’s also an assortment of platters to choose from which are a great way to maximise on variety.
4. Taste of Napoli
Taste of Napoli is Bristol’s answer to authentic Italian street food. Offering a range of pizza, sandwiches, fritti and desserts, it’s simple, tasty and comforting food at its best. You can order pizza by the slice, by half, or go for the entire thing (highly recommended!). Or if you’re wanting something a little lighter, their focaccia sandwiches, paninis and arancini make for the perfect satisfying snack, filled with irresistible Italian ingredients like salami, olives, mortadella, and more.
5. Taka Taka
Using handmade pita bread wraps, Greek olive oil, and succulent high quality meat, it’s easy to see how Taka Taka has captured the authentic flavours of the Mediterranean and packaged them neatly into one of their famous magic rolls. How you choose to fill yours is your prerogative, with options ranging from pork, chicken and lamb gyros/souvlaki, to halloumi, vine leaves and falafel. Each wrap is also stuffed with a healthy serving of salad, tzatziki and fries. If you’re thinking that sounds like heaven, then you would be correct.
