If you know anything about the Bristol-based creative production company PYTCH, you’ll know them for their iconic light displays (although they do much more than that). They’re the team behind that lit up Castle Bridge during last year’s Bristol Light Festival and Westonbirt during Christmas. They’re now bringing Lumosphere to one of Bristol’s most iconic buildings.
Described as “an immersive and interactive walk-through experience where art and technology collide,” Lumosphere is set to completely transform Cabot Circus’ historic Friary Building in Quakers Friars into a 45-minute, multi-sensory experience for ages. From July 26 until August 16, you can interact with the art, hear incredible soundscapes and gaze into extraordinary projections.
“We’re so excited to bring Lumosphere to Cabot Circus for a limited time only,” said Johnny Palmer, founder of PYTCH, who is also behind the Clifton Christmas Light Switch On. “We’ll take visitors on a truly amazing experience that will excite the senses and ignite the soul through interactive lights, projection and haunting soundscapes.”
How similar Lumosphere is to PYTCH’s winter light trail of the same name (that took over The Stables near Leight Court in December) remains to be seen. That featured 10 unique installations and combined to create one flowing narrative. This, meanwhile, is focused on four distinct, immersive spaces with various themes including: ‘perspective’, ‘beginnings’, ‘journey’, ‘connection’, ‘discovery’, and ‘exploration’.
“Introducing art and culture is just one of the innovative ways we are evolving our assets, including Cabot Circus, from places where people come only to shop to ‘destinations’, offering a real mix of social experiences,” said Sarah Tinsley, Director of Marketing & Placemaking at Hammerson. “Bristol is renowned for its daring and colourful art scene, so we’re excited to be able to celebrate this creativity and engage customers in a fun and innovative way.
You’ll be guided by lights and soundscapes and find information on installations, artists, curation, music and more as you enter each space. The experience is suitable for all ages. Lumosphere forms part of a wider strategy to turn Cabot Circus into a ‘multi-purpose destination’ offering live music, art, entertainment, leisure and social events.
