Prepare to be spirited away by the emotive music of Joe Hisaishi at this spellbinding concert. The mesmerising night of moving melodies, captivating compositions and flickering candlelight will be illuminating Bristol’s centuries-old Church of St Thomas the Martyr on June 25.
From the moment the musicians begin to play you will be plunged into the animated world of the Studio Ghibli films; a fantastical place where you might encounter a 300-year-old wolf goddess, an ex-fighter-pilot-turned-anthropomorphic-pig or a giant twelve-legged cat-bus. Sounds pretty magical, right?
Once you’ve taken a seat in the hallowed halls of the Bristol church, you’ll be able to admire the striking architecture bathed in the yellow glow of candlelight. The high vaulted ceilings, stained glass windows and the biblical paintings that adorn the walls are sure to set an atmospheric scene for the enchanting evening to unfold.
Performing the beautiful renditions of Joe Hisaishi’s gorgeous works will be a talented string quartet. You’ll soon be hypnotised by their sweeping bows and fall under the spell of the transporting Studio Ghibli soundtracks as the music fills the grand space. You can expect all the favourites from the much-loved Japanese films, including Princess Mononoke, Spirited Away, My Neighbour Totoro, Kiki’s Delivery Service and many more.
There will be two performances on the date, one at 7pm and another at 9pm. Whichever you choose, the candlelight concert will serve as a perfect way to end your day on a sonorous high note. Make sure to grab tickets now if you want to celebrate the incredible works of Joe Hisaishi and give yourself something truly special to look forward to this summer.
