It’s a dream many of us lowkey hold. To buy a farm in the countryside, live off the land. Not many would think to run a curry house-cum-luxury supper club out of it. Just on the other side of Bath, well, that’s exactly what’s happened at Castle Farm in Midford.
The husband and wife team, Pravin and Leah Nayar took over the running of the Castle Farm restaurant in 2018. Taking advantage of what’s grown on the land, plus inspiration from Pravin’s mixed Asian and Scandinavian heritage, dining at the organic farm is full of surprises. One thing’s for certain, the food’s always delicious!
You’ll find the seasons often reflected in the menu as it serves up everything from curries and cocktails, to one-off suppers and traditional Sunday roasts. Oh, and how have we not even mentioned its gorgeous countryside location? Settled in the rolling hills of Somerset, stop by on Saturday mornings for brunch – anything from Kerala fried chicken to a breakfast dhal or Thai-style fried rice – beautiful views.
Every Friday (and the odd Saturday too), Castle Farm opens its barn doors for curry night. You can grab a selection of snacks, curries, rice and bread served to the whole table (£35pp). Or order individual items, like the Malabar-inspired Cornish monkfish in South Indian tamarind & fenugreek curry; or the Babi Varuval – slow-roasted pork belly, with caramelised onions & potatoes.
Then get ready to tuck into a ‘family style’ roast dinner on Sunday. Offering three meats (or a veggie roast), plus stuffing, local greens, parsnips, carrots, cheesy leeks, roasties and Yorkies, everything’s served on big platters in the middle of the table to help yourselves. And at £21pp (£10.50 for a child), it isn’t a bad price for all that food either!
What makes Castle Farm so special isn’t just that it can wear many faces, but it does while always remaining fresh and evolving. If you’re looking for something extra special at Castle Farm, however, you’ve got to check out its Saturday supper club. Enter the candlelit barn, and enjoy a specially themed six-course meal, with craft cocktails, fine wines and entertainment.
The next supper club (April 20) is inspired by the cookbooks of the Bath-based publisher, Persephone. To learn more about Castle Farm head here.
