Whether you’re into sustainable fashion for a bargain or something that doesn’t cost the earth, we love vintage clothes in Bristol. As a result, we’re seeing high streets turn away from high-end brands and embrace second-hand styles. Only last month, Sparks – the department store with a difference – launched its very own sustainable fashion department. While the city is currently full of thriving vintage clothes shops dotted all over.
Coming this Friday (July 1), Cabot Circus is about to embrace the sustainable trend too. Charity Super.Mkt, the UK’s first multi-charity retail store, will pop up opposite Urban Outfitters until August 27. Bringing together a revolving charity line-up, a mix of household names and local favourites, under one roof.
Taking over empty retail premises in busy high streets, Charity Super.Mkt gives charities the opportunity to sell their clothes whilst benefiting from “collective marketing, a great high street position and the general buzz around the concept”. Having already found success at Brent Cross in London and The Oracle in Reading, with Bristol chosen as its third destination due to it being the UK’s third greenest city, a former European Green Capital and the UK’s first ‘cycling city’.
Contributing charities: Age UK, Bath Cats and Dogs, Brandon Trust, Great Western Air Ambulance, Havens Hospices, Marie Curie, Shelter, St Peter’s Hospice, TRAID and Weston Hospicecare. But alongside finding second-hand bargains, visitors will also be treated to local DJs playing every weekend and ‘Gift Card Voucher’ giveaways. Customers are also encouraged to donate a pre-loved item in-store.
“Next stop is Cabot Circus , Bristol , which for many years has been a leader in the social values that underpin Charity Super.Mkt and where we know it’s going to be a smash hit,” said co-founder Wayne Hemingway. “We have gathered a revolving cohort of national, local and regional charities who have all been squirrelling away great second-hand pieces. We have also gathered some of the city’s best DJ’s who are going to be spinning vinyl on weekends.”
On top of all this, Charity Super.Mkt will be throwing an opening party on Thursday, July 20, with music and locally-sourced food for hungry shoppers. Customers can sign up for a free launch party ticket here. To learn more about Charity Super.Mkt head here.
