If your morning coffee is all about ingesting as much caffeine as possible, this might not be the cafe for you. The Bedminster coffee shop is about as far from a ‘cup of mud’ as you can come. Sleek, modern and serving some of the smoothest coffee in Bristol – nobody is doing it like Sweven.
This heavenly hotspot on Bedminster’s North Street is, understandably, named after the archaic word for ‘a vision’ or ‘dream’. Gently lit, with white gleaming interior, that’s exactly what it is for coffee lovers. Since launching in 2019, it has built quite the reputation both locally and beyond for its “boutique collection of rare and exquisite coffees”.
Unlike most coffee shops you’ll stumble across on a Saturday morning, visitors have a choice of two different espressos here. So you can enjoy your latte, flat white, cappuccino or Americano exactly the way you like it. Perfect for coffee snobs chasing botanical fragrances one day, something more citrusy another.
But don’t worry if you’re taste buds aren’t quite up to scratch. Sweven’s friendly, informative baristas will happily guide your through your aromatic options without pretension. All while preparing your morning coffee, with great care and attention, with silky-textured milk. While a glass of water is given with every drink to help cleanse your palate between sips.
You can have faith in Sweven’s knowledgeableness too. Also working as roastery, Sweven sources and roasts all it own coffee beans – while also housing some guest roasts too – which are rotated on a regular basis. Supporting small producers, Sweven ensures every bean sustainable minded, whilst being responsible for the environment and putting community first.
Of course, what sort of coffee shop doesn’t serve viennoiserie? Well Sweven serves a selection of baked goods made to rival their coffee in flavour. Using local bakers, on our first visit we picked up a raspberry jam-filled almond croissant – that we still think about on a daily basis. While there regularly a selection of cakes on offer too.
Sweven is an eye-opener for coffee novices, a dream come true for coffee lovers. To learn more head here.
