Back in March 2020, Glastonbury Festival were preparing to host their heavily-anticipated 50th anniversary event over at Worthy Farm. But, as we know, the world had other ideas.
Since the pandemic, Glastonbury have been forced to cancel their historic event not once, but twice – with the June 2021 event coming too soon, despite festivals in the UK being held later in the summer following the July 19 “Freedom Day”.
Now, we won’t speak to soon, but it feels like we can finally get excited about the prospect of the UK’s biggest and most-acclaimed festival happening once again. The first wave of artists is here, and we can get excited for the prospect of Billie Eilish, Sir Paul McCartney and Kendrick Lamar headlining the Pyramid Stage.
Earlier this year, organisers confirmed the first little taster; announcing Billie Eilish as Glastonbury 2022’s first headliner.
Billie Eilish, currently 19, is set to become the festival’s youngest ever solo-headliner. When she takes to the stage on Friday, June 24 2022, she will be 20 years and six months. As of now, the youngest performer in a group to be part of a headline set was Mark Hamilton (20 years and three months) from the band Ash, who headlined the event in 1997.
Elsewhere throughout the weekend, we can get excited for performances from the likes of Diana Ross, Arlo Parks, BICEP, Little Simz, Pet Shop Boys, TLC, Wolf Alice, Turnstile, Ghetts, Skunk Anansie, Olivia Rodrigo and many, many more.
Glastonbury Festival takes place between June 22-26, 2022. Ticketing information can be found here.
