We’re all guilty of running late from time to time… maybe all the time. It feels like we’re constantly rushing because we daydreamt too long in the shower or got distracted by the post out the door. But there’s one instance we’re never late for and that’s catching a train from Bristol Temple Meads. If only to visit Hart’s Bakery beforehand.
Because one of Bristol’s best bakeries is actually hidden beneath the train station. You’ll find Hart’s Bakery working out of a large railway arch down the side of Temple Meads. And once you try its artisan pastries, cakes and savouries, you’ll never be late for the train again either! (Unless of course, you become too distracted by all the amazing goodies you can find here, which is highly likely.)
Serving some of the best Cornish pasties in Bristol, Hart’s Bakery is an instant replacement for the alternative spot inside the station (naming no names). But you’ll also find a daily changing menu filled with mouthwatering and freshly made sausage rolls, tarts and focaccia sandwiches. The chefs also love to whip up some special lunch items most days, which you’ll find posted every morning on their Instagram.
Some recent surprises include bacon, egg, cheese and sausage croissant; red lentil and carrot soup with sumac yoghurt; chipotle cauliflower with black-eyed bean salsa; and deep-fried pork & prawn spring roll. But every day is a delicious surprise that keeps us on our toes.
For those with a sweeter tooth, you’ll find a selection of fresh Viennoiserie such as croissants, pain au chocolat and cinnamon buns. Perfect for savouring with a cup of speciality coffee from local Extract Coffee Roasters. Or why not really indulge in some uniquely handmade cakes, like chocolate and tahini flapjack, cookies and cream cheesecake, or vanilla creme pat doughnuts?
Even if you’re not in the area for the train, it’s worth stopping by Hart’s Bakery. Endless surprises demand repeat visits so that you never miss out, and make this a great lunch spot or even somewhere to pick up a sourdough loaf. You’ll never be let to the train station again after your first visit… whether you get sucked in by all the treats and miss your train is another story.
