Bristol is full of incredible independent bookshops, each carving out their niche in the city, but there’s still room for one more. You won’t find anything like The Haunted Bookshop elsewhere in the city when it opens soon on Stokes Croft – selling every kind of creepy book from blood-soaked horror classics to eclectic occultist rare reads.
The description reads: “Step into a world of spine-chilling tales, mystical splendours, and ancient folklore as you explore our carefully curated collection of horror, fantasy, and witchcraft books. Whether you’re seeking spine-tingling thrills, fantastical adventures, or a deeper understanding of the occult, our shelves are brimming with stories sure to enchant you.”
It’s not just trading in ghost stories and folk tales, however, as The Haunted Bookshop will stock numerous “witchy items” like brooms, ritual candles, herbs, and many feminist gifts. You’ll also be able to get your hands on pumpkin-spiced lattes all year around (alongside a selection of coffees, teas, and soft drinks to enjoy while you read).
There’s also room for a seating area downstairs – which will be ideal if you’re looking for a spot for your Stephen King-themed book club, Tarot card readings, or coven meeting every full moon. Work is still well underway to transform the location (which used to be the quirky hairdressers, Shambarber) and we can only hope it’s open in time for Halloween!
The aim is for The Haunted Bookshop to open in September, but we know how quickly plans can change. To follow regular up dates with what’s happening head to the Instagram page here.
