Bristol’s very own IDLES is ready to light up Queen Square with a brand-new music event this summer. A favourite summer hangout spot, the area will transform into a Bristol ‘Block Party’ weekend with bands, DJs and the best of Bristol’s street food for two wild nights on August 1 & 2, 2025. And it’s the first time in over 20 years that Queen Square has ‘opened its doors’ to a major music event – the last time being none other than Bristol’s other favourites, Massive Attack, in 2003.
Known for their raw energy and unflinching performances, IDLES have risen from Bristol’s underground scene to become one of the most influential bands of the past decade. So it’s only fitting that they headline both nights. Not only will this gig series be Bristol’s newest musical addition this summer, but it will also be IDLES’ only UK performance for 2025!
“We cannot wait to bring this event to Queen Square,” said Daniel Ealam and Scott O’Neill, promoters at Communion ONE. “It’s a space that’s right at the heart of the city which already brings some unforgettable communal experiences to the community and partnering with IDLES, a band that embodies the spirit and resilience of Bristol, makes this even more significant for us.”
Playing both nights, the Bristol-based band will be supported by a stellar line-up of incredible live acts and DJs, which will be different each night. IDLES’ vocalist Joe Talbot previously promised a line-up full of “music we love for the people we love”, and the band have now honored that with today’s (March 5) announcement of their special guests for the Block Party shows.
On Friday (August 1), the two-man punk assault of SOFT PLAY, who made a frenetic comeback with last year’s critically acclaimed ‘HEAVY JELLY’ album, will keep the energy high. They will be joined by the riotous Lambrini Girls and an in-your-face dubstep set from SICARIA.
The ‘Block Party’ continues on Saturday (August 2) with Julian Casablancas’ The Voidz leading the supporting line-up. Joined by Spanish duo Hinds, Bristol’s ‘Black + Queer’ pioneer Grove, and Club Yeke founder Tash LC. Both days will be complete with local DJs and food and drink served by Bristol favourites.
