If you haven’t been paying attention, there’s currently a nationwide celebration underway in the UK to mark the 200th anniversary of the modern railway. Bristol being Bristol, however, we had to do things a little differently—with a one-of-a-kind, brand-new family show, Wunderground 200.
Taking you deep into echoing tunnels, discover a mix of theatre, multimedia and interactive storytelling beneath Bristol Temple Meads. The Invisible Circus’ immersive family show at Loco Klub explores two centuries of train travel in the dark, from August 4 – 31.

Wunderground 200 is designed for children aged 5 to 10, but will captivate audience members of all ages, I’m sure—as you meet historical figures, experience the dawn of the steam age and glimpse the future of sustainable transport. Each visit through the tunnels lasts 90 minutes and includes a 60-minute guided performance.
“Wunderground 200 is about time travel, yes, but it’s also about imagination, innovation and identity,” said Doug Francisco, Creative Director of The Invisible Circus. “The railways shaped Britain’s past, and they’ll shape our future. This show is an invitation to celebrate where we’ve been and dream about where we’re going, all from right here in one of Bristol’s most extraordinary underground spaces.”

The Invisible Circus (who are known for their radical street performances and site-specific theatre) were last spotted telling the story of the iconic Christmas Steps. Equal parts performance and play, set within the striking architecture of the Grade I listed Brunel tunnels, Wunderground 200 looks to be another unforgettable experience from the troupe.
Tickets are £14 for adults and £12 for children. Meanwhile, relaxed performances with adjusted lighting and sound will be available on Tuesdays and Saturdays. To learn more about Wunderground 200 head here.
