If you’re looking to get fit ahead of the summer, there’s no time like the present. You could head to your closest gym, but with the days (sort of) looking sunnier, why not embrace the outdoors? Yes, we’re suggesting you sign up for a running club – where you can explore the beauty of this city and, maybe, even make some new friends!
Bristol’s full of excellent running clubs. But, if like us, you’ve got none of the gear and even less of an idea they might seem a tad daunting. That’s where LHG Run Club comes in. The running club with “no show-offs, no egos, just good vibes” isn’t for marathon runners. Instead, it puts the focus on socialising over PBs.
Scared to head down on your own? Don’t be! Started by Jay Medway in 2019, LHG Run Club is all about “equality, empowerment and community.” People of all genders, abilities, shapes and backgrounds are welcome – as long as you’re supportive of your fellow runners. There’s even a bunch of photos of Run Leaders on their website, so you know some of the friendly faces before you head down
When does LHG Run Club meet?
Meeting every Tuesday at the Left Handed Giant Brewpub in Finzels Reach, enjoy a “social pace” around Bristol – turn up at 6pm for either a 6km or 8.5km run. The best part? It ends back at the pub, where many stick around to enjoy a pint (with 10% drinks for all run clubbers) and ‘zas from Pizza is Lovely. Can’t make Tuesday? It also runs every Thursday from the LHG Tap Room in St Phillips Tap Room.
Beyond weekly runs, LHG Run Club puts on a range of one-off running events. From trail runs through the beautiful countryside surrounding Bristol to Halloween meet-ups – with prizes for the best dressed! There’s even an upcoming ‘pub run’ (April 27) between eight of the city’s best breweries. You’ll always find something interesting running though…
LHG Run Club is more than just a run club though (yes, we know it’s in the name). “We all start together and end together, no one is ever left behind.” And this community spirit extends to all “whether the running shoes are on or off”. If you’re new to the city or you’ve lived here all your life, we know making friends and building a community is difficult. At LHG Run Club, you’ll build relationships that last long after the running is over.
