Half-cooked sausages, dry burgers, and, maybe if you’re lucky, a soggy coleslaw, the Great British BBQ leaves a lot to be desired. But, taking inspiration from across the pond, Low & Slow Barbecue is opening Bristol’s eyes to the joy of the melt-in-your-mouth meats heavily associated with the States.
What started as a pop-up from husband and wife, Jack & Lyndsey, outside their local butcher’s on Gloucester Road almost a decade ago, Low and Slow Barbecue now boasts two permanent locations at St. Nicholas Market and on Whiteladies Road. And the city just can’t get enough of the couple’s slow-cooked barbecue food.
Slowly smoked in-house overnight, every night, it promises the freshest barbecue in Bristol. Tuck into pulled pork, beef brisket, and boneless chicken thighs, as well as hot wings, and experience the smokiest, mouth-watering meats for miles. Plus, there’s everything from dirty fries to mac ‘n’ cheese, Texas toast and even milkshakes to transform this into an epic-sized meal.
What has Low & Slow Barbecue won?

It comes as no surprise, then, that Low & Slow Barbecue has been crowned the best takeaway in the South West for Uber Eats’ 2025 Restaurant of the Year Awards. As one of 12 regional champions being recognised for their outstanding food, the ‘slow cooked fast food’ spot will soon compete for the overall prize.
Jack Geach, Director of Low and Slow Barbecue, said: “The support we’ve received from the people of Bristol has been absolutely phenomenal. The food scene in Bristol is one of the best in the country, so to be recognised and given the opportunity to represent the city as a national finalist at the UberEats Awards is mind-blowing, it’s such an honour!”
Later this year, finalists will gather in London for a two-day celebration of their work, including a full judging day with industry experts such as Levi Roots, Eating with Todd, Clodagh McKenna, and 2024 Restaurant of the Year winner, Natty Crutchfield. The overall winner will receive a £100,000 prize to invest in their business.
