Luminate calls itself ‘the UK’s number one light trail’, but how do you begin to judge something like that? Nonetheless, it’s a pretty impressive spectacle that’s already taken over the private country estate of King Charles III and Queen Camilla, Sandringham. Next up, it’s heading to Bristol’s Ashton Court.
Having welcomed over a million visitors at sites across the UK since 2019, Lumiate will brighten up these darkening nights at Ashton Court with a stunning new mile-long illuminated journey ahead of the festive season. This mesmerising trail aims to captivate all ages with an after-dark experience to remember in Bristol.

From Friday, November 28, to Friday, December 28, Luminate’s mesmerising trail will feature stunning light elements and interactive light play, all set to a beautiful soundtrack. Just one of the installations sees 4,000 illuminated roses change colour in a display set to a medley of music.
Another bespoke installation includes the Mirrorball Alley, creating the perfect photo opportunities, while interactive elements like joysticks and the retro game Simon Says keep everyone engaged. Plus, ‘Make a Wish’ by writing down your heart’s desire—the Luminate fairies will be looking to make a lucky visitor’s dream come true.

“We’re so excited to bring Luminate to Bristol,” said Janine Maycock, part of the Luminate team. “We are working towards becoming the world’s best festive light event, and we work with exceptional talent in iconic locations to ensure Luminate is a fun and enchanting evening out. We have lots of family visitors, but it is also a romantic date night, and has sparked several proposals of marriage.”
En route, sip on mulled wine and toast marshmallows on fire pits, as you make your way around. Plus, keep an eye out for dedicated dog-friendly nights and evenings for those with Special Educational Needs. The Luminate trail is accessible for mobility scooters and pushchairs.
