University is all about experimenting: political ideas, fashion choices, other stuff we probably shouldn’t say… Most people are pretty stuck in their ways when it comes to Marmite though. But, apparently, a whopping 43% of Gen Z have never even tried Britain’s iconic spread.
That’s where this Marmite Dark Room steps in. To broaden the breakfast horizons of this ‘lost generation’ – and let’s face it, they need all the help they can get in the kitchen – Marmite is launching a multi-sensory experience on Park Street next week (October 26).
Whether you end up being a Marmite lover or a hater, this is your chance to find out. Taking place at Jacobs Clothing Store, close to the university campus, Gen Z participants will have the chance to try the spread in a variety of different ways. This ranges from toast-dispensing tasting holes to Marmite-y blindfolds.
Bristol students will also be encouraged to experiment to find their favourite Marmite ‘tasting positions’, with first-hand reactions captured on film. Afterwards, attend the Marmite Dark Room event, and will receive a “Marma Sutra” recipe booklet. (If you haven’t yet tried Nigella Lawson’s Marmite spaghetti recipe, by the way, it’s cheap, simple and incredibly tasty…)
“Through this event, Marmite, the ultimate ingredient for tasty breakfasts and late-night snacking alike, is daring First-Timers to give it a try,” said Laura Iliffe, Marmite Brand Manager. “We’re proud to be divisive when it comes to taste, but you’ve got to try it to become a true lover or hater!
“Through the lens of playful innuendo, The Marmite Dark Room will no doubt appeal to Gen Z’s curious and open-minded attitude, aiming to encourage those who haven’t given it a go, to do so and find their perfect spread. We’re confident that this experience will reveal a new generation of Marmite lovers!”
If this no-holds-barred Marmite “experiment” wasn’t enough, the brand is also launching an official ‘Marmite Butty Call’ hotline. Delivering Marmite on toasted items to Bristol students, simply call the dedicated phone number and get an order delivered within the hour. Yum!
