Bristol’s iconic Odeon cinema on Union Street closes its doors after 88 years next week (Wednesday, February 11). But there’s not much time to mourn, because a brand-new cinema is opening the very next day (Thursday, February 12) in Cabot Circus—replacing the former Showcase Cinema De Lux, which shut in 2023.
With Oscar nominations now out, Bristol’s new Odeon Luxe couldn’t have come at a better time. The new cinema boasts some of the best seats in the house too—with not only handmade fully-reclining seats, but two-seater ‘pods’ and VIP beds also available.
If that wasn’t enough, Odeon Luxe brings IMAX back to Bristol with floor-to-ceiling, wall-to-wall screenings, combined with “heart-pounding audio”. But you can also experience films in iSense, with 4K resolution and Dolby Atmos sound. And make sure to grab a drink at upmarket Oscar’s Bar beforehand, too!
How do I get cheap tickets?
To celebrate its new opening, Odeon is offering £4 cinema tickets throughout the week and over half-term on ‘every seat, every screen, and every movie’. The offer ends on Sunday, February 22, and doesn’t apply to special screenings or Event Cinema screenings. But everything else is yours to see for just £4. You just have to book through the website.
What can I see?
The opening on Thursday, February 12, has a range of movies to choose from. Keep up with the Oscar buzz and watch Hamnet and Marty Supreme. Parents can take the little ones along to Zootropolis 2. While horror fans have plenty to choose from, with Return to Silent Hill, The Strangers – Chapter 3, and 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple.
You can also try out the new IMAX with a special screening of Interstellar. Check out the John Bishop-inspired Is This Thing On? for some laughter. And there’s not one, but two movies about being trapped on an island (Send Help and Shelter). Other films are The Housemaid, Primate, Avatar: Fire and Ash, No Other Choice, Crime 101 and Mercy.
