Bristol’s always been a great city to grow up in. But it might be about to become a lot better. Pickle Street is being described as Bristol’s first immersive role-play village for children up to seven years old – and it is opening in the heart of Bedminster’s East Street this spring.
With PACE (playfulness, acceptance, curiosity and empathy) forming the foundation of its approach, Pickle Street will be made up of nine areas, each designed to “spark imagination and facilitate playful learning.” It will even feature a miniaturised version of Bristol to interact with.
It’s taking over the former Boots store, and has been dreamt up by a couple who, after traumatic struggles with IVF and miscarriages, found their family through adoption. As such, they intend for Pickle Street to embody “a vision for a bright, inclusive and trauma-informed future for every kind of family.”
Not only will Pickle Street be a new play area for young children, however, but it will also double as an event space for parties and workshops when it eventually opens. More recently announced, Bristol’s very own Pinkman’s Bakery will also set up inside the venue, serving coffees and, hopefully, its famous sourdoughnuts.
There’s no official opening date yet for Pickle Street, but we’re expecting more news very soon. To follow along with updates, head to the official Instagram page here.
