Nothing says Christmas quite like lacing up your boots and heading onto the ice for a spot of skating with friends and family. Better yet, Bristolians can experience the ultimate festive feels this year by enjoying a top-notch roast, presents and great company and hitting the ice on Christmas Day too.
Christmas Day ice skating sessions have long been a regular thing in Bristol. Going back to the old ice skating rink on Frogmore Street, we regularly saw queues of people keen to have a holly, jolly (and somewhat chilly) Christmas on the ice. The Bristol Ice Rink closed its doors in 2012 after 46 years, sadly, and it wasn’t until Cribbs Causeway’s Planet Ice opened in 2021 that this festive activity returned.
Many might assume ‘open all year round’ doesn’t actually mean ‘open all year round’, but at Planet Ice it does. All 365 days a year, including Christmas Day and New Year’s Day, and ensuring you can enjoy the thrill of skating anytime you wish. These Christmas Day ice skating sessions at Planet Ice Bristol will take place from 10am to 12noon, however, places are limited, with only 30o spaces available – the good news is that tickets start at £10.
What else is on this Christmas?
Throughout the season, keep an eye out for Santa himself, who will be making surprise appearances on the ice, walking around the rink or even trading his sleigh for the Zamboni. Then on Friday, December 13, show off your most festive Christmas jumper at Planet Ice’s Christmas Jumper Party and enjoy 2-for-1 ice skating!
Planet Ice isn’t just for Christmas though. You can hop on over any day of the year. The attraction offers international standard skating facilities designed to accommodate a range of ice-related activities and sports, such as ice skating lessons and ice hockey. But you won’t experience anything as magical as ice skating on Christmas Day with the family. So go on, get your skates on as these tickets are likely to sell out!
