Tucked away in a woodland area near Long Ashton and just four miles away from Bristol city centre, you’ll find Poolside Pad – a gorgeous little cabin looking out at the valley. It’s a far cry from the city life that we’re used to – swapping concrete and the sounds of scuffling humans and traffic, for wonderful nature and the peaceful songs of nearby tweeting birds.
It’s the perfect socially-distanced getaway, yet just a stone’s throw away from the city. Once you do find this getaway pad, however, the real fun begins – with guests being able to plunge into the private pool and take in the idyllic views.
The surrounding nature follows you all the way inside, with wooden furniture dotted around the pad as well as floral wallpaper, plus trailing plants and shrubbery creeping around its exterior.
Upon walking in, you’re greeted with gorgeous views of undisrupted woodland and countryside, with a lovely private and natural swimming pool right in front of the property reflecting the sunlight and attracting local wildlife such as deer and heron. The perfect view to take in while lounging in front of the cosy log burner with your feet up.
Elsewhere in the property, there’s a seating area located right by the pool which looks out towards the open countryside (where you can guarantee your neighbour Sandra won’t be noseying around), with scenic views best enjoyed with a glass of your favourite tipple. Plus, for those brisk evenings there’s armchairs to lounge in from inside yet still look out at the impressive landscape.
The poolside pad has everything you could possibly need with a a king-size bed, seating inside and out and an en suite bathroom with a shower. For cooking, you’ve only got a toaster, microwave, kettle and BBQ, but there are several good pubs in Long Ashton if you don’t fancy firing up the grill.
Situated by a farm, there’s plenty to do nearby, with the oak woods full of bluebells and wild garlic in season to explore, keeping an eye out for warblers and woodpeckers as you go. Take a wander out to Ashton Court to watch the hot air balloons rising in the morning before you push on over the suspension bridge to Clifton and beyond.
Or simply stay in and dangle your feet in the pool, looking out at the countryside views over the rooftops of Long Ashton village – the balloons will float over and the wildlife might well come to you. Bats are sometimes visible as they skim low to catch flies on an evening, plus a local heron keeps its eye on the water and deer and badgers have been known to come foraging in the garden.
The pool may be quite the bracing dip at most times of year as it’s unheated and completely natural but if you’re after some tranquillity, they say water is a calming place. Plus you can enjoy it all to yourself.
