We all dream of engorging on a multi-course menu at a fine-dining restaurant, but in reality, can we all afford to? Well, dreams can come true when the affordable six-course dining experience, Six by Nico, opens at Quakers Friars. We’ll all soon be living the high life in Bristol without breaking the bank.
With locations all over the UK – including Edinburgh, Manchester, Birmingham and London – Six by Nico specialises in six-course tasting menus that change every six weeks. The concept was dreamt up by owner and Michelin-trained chef, Nico Simeone. With each new menu taking inspiration from a particular theme, destination, or concept.
Past themes include ‘The Chippie’, which elevated much-loved British classics – including a reimagining of Scotland’s most famous dish, a deep-fried Mars Bar with chocolate pave and Irn Bru sorbet. It also included classics such as Chips & Cheese with parmesan espuma and crisp potato terrine; Scampi with beurre blanc; and a 24-hour Steak Pie, followed by Fish Supper and Smoked Sausage.
Other menus have travelled to ‘Tokyo’, ‘New York’ and ‘Sicily’, while some fan favourites include a menu inspired by funfair rides and another by fairy tales. All menus come with a six-course vegetarian alternative, plus vegan options too. And with them changing so regularly, you’ll be desperate to return.
We also expect the experience to be relatively cheap compared to other multi-course alternatives in the city. At the nearby Cardiff location – where the upcoming ‘Mexico’ menu draws on contemporary Mexican street food and ancient culinary classics – it will cost you £42 per person, with the option to enjoy a wine pairing for an extra £33.
We might be waiting a little while until Six by Nico arrives in Bristol, however. The company has only recently applied for a premises licence (May 2) to open a restaurant and bar. It’s set to take over the former Carluccio’s restaurant, which closed in 2018. To learn more about Six by Nico head here.
