If you’re into skateboarding, odds are you’ve popped into a car park or two over your lifetime. Smooth concrete surfaces, well-sheltered from the weather, and grindable curbs make them perfect for pulling off an ollie or a heelflip—or they would be if it weren’t for all the cars.
Keen to make Cabot Circus car park less hazardous for skateboarders this October half term, the shopping centre has teamed up again to create this with CANVAS free-to-use skate park. Kitting out Level 7 of the shopping centre’s car park with the likes of long-painted curbs, manual pads, ledges, rails, and kicker ramps.
This is the third year the partnership has pulled off this initiative, which proved a huge success in 2022 and 2023. CANVAS is a design and construction company, specialising in concrete skateparks, and they’ve created another “safe, dry, and well-lit space for skaters of all ages, genders, and skill levels”.
What is happening at the Level 7 Skate Event?

You can head down to the main skating area from October 23 to November 3 (11am-8pm) for free open skate sessions, but you will need to pre-book a ticket. There will also be skate takeovers from Shiner (October 26), Route One (October 27) and Rock Solid Dist (November 2), as well as a special LGBT+ jam on November 3. Plus, graffiti workshops from Upfest (October 28) and a film premiere, ‘Petite by Petticoat’ (November 3).
“Skate, vibe, and celebrate the creative spirit of Bristol with us!” reads the Cabot Circus website. “Whether you’re nailing tricks or just soaking up the atmosphere, you’ll be part of something special at Level 7. We can’t wait to see you there.”
This year, there’s also a ‘Slow Space Area’ for beginners, designed with Skate Board GB and children from May Park Primary in Easton. Here, you can “master your skills at your own pace” and join in on a series of free campus lessons – aimed at beginners and those less confident from 7 years old upwards.
