Outdoor swimming spots are a necessity during the summer months in Bristol. Somewhere to cool down, dip your toes and relax. Now the hot weather is back, residents of Bishopton were left pining for the much-loved paddling pool in St Andrew’s Park. Thankfully the paddling pool for children has reopened for the season.
St Andrew’s Park paddling pool was initially closed for renovations in 2020, but it would take over two years for the work to be finished thanks to the Covid-19 pandemic. Eventually, following a petition demanding the removal of the extensive fencing surrounding the pool (calling it an “imposing eyesore”), it was re-opened in 2022. But only for the summer season. The fencing went back up over the winter.
As of June 12, however, the fencing is back down and the pool is open again! Just in time for summer too. Perfect for families with children, the paddling pool is the ideal spot to unwind on a hot day (while keeping the kiddies busy). You can also enjoy a bite at the nearby cafe if you’re feeling peckish.
St Andrew’s Park is a classic Victorian neighbourhood park, where many come to enjoy the large green space. Whether playing football or frisbee, reading your book in the grass, chatting with friends or experiencing nature, it serves all of the community of Bishopton and beyond. While young children can enjoy the playground full of swings, climbing frames, a slide, balancing rails and a sand pit.
But now the paddling pool is back up and running, this stunning park feels complete again. It should remain open until early September, so get down while you can and enjoy a splash about during the summer holidays.
