It’s Halloween and all creepy ghouls, ghosts and poltergeists are coming out to play tonight. To mark this spooky occasion, the Bath-based immersive horror studio, Stormjar, is launching a brand new project, The Nightmare Market, tonight (October 31) at a secret location in Bristol.
While tickets are currently sold out (you can join the waiting list just in case), this is not a show but a sneak peek at what’s coming. The studio is known for “reimagining immersive experiences with a horror twist for modern audiences,” so there’ll be plenty more for us all to get involved with soon.
Using a mixture of online and real-world ways to interact with the story, The Nightmare Market has been described as “a psychological location-based horror experience about a spirit market where monsters trade the nightmares of humankind.” But the first ‘nightmare’ will tell the story of a former WWI trench radio operator living in solitude.
Set on Flat Holm, a real island in the Bristol Channel, you will be asked to discover the secrets of this haunted island in a variety of ways. The Static Sea will end in March 2024, with a live event taking place on the actual haunted island. Where six lucky (or maybe unfortunate) guests will stay overnight and get to the bottom of the creepy goings-on.
To set sail to Flat Holm, you can purchase a £10 lottery ticket, giving three lucky winners, plus one guest each, to visit. Tickets are available from November 14, but if you miss out on the chance, the online community will still be able to help out on the night. They will also be given clues to help those on the island.
Stormjar Studio was founded by Jim and Soph, who came together to merge their experiences of immersive physical and digital experiences; their aim is to create expansive stories that are accessible both through real-life and online channels. If you want to get involved with this new kind of immersive horror experience, sign up to The Nightmare Market Discord & enter The Static Sea channel to find entry into the story.
