It’s 1am on a Friday, and it’s time to go home from being out with friends. As all of your friends live in different ends of town, there is no other choice but to leg it home on your own. Even if public transport is still running, the walk to and from public transport alone can be scary, even if nothing happens. However, sometimes you’re left having to ignore some drunken guy or multiple, not knowing what they might do next. So, what if we told you, Strut Safe, a charity that stays on the phone with people walking home alone, exists, and you can call them, too?
Strut Safe is a UK-wide volunteer-based charity providing kindness and reassurance over the phone to those on their lonesome way home at night. The charity operates on a non-judgement basis, so it doesn’t matter where you’ve been or where you’re going, they will just stay on the phone with you until you safely arrive at the destination.
All team members at Strut Safe have been pre-screened, thoroughly interviewed and trained, as well as in possession of a valid Disclosure and Barring Service certificate.
How can I call Strut Safe?
To use Strut Safe services, travellers can call their line between 7pm and 3am on Fridays and Saturdays, or between 7pm and 1am on Sundays. Commuters will then be connected to a trained volunteer who will stay on the phone as long as needed. Callers will be charged their standard network fee which most of the time is free from UK mobiles.

What if no one picks up?
In the case there is no free team member, callers will be given a list of other available phone lines with an option to leave a message for a callback.
Alongside nine core team members, the charity currently boasts 48 additional volunteers who help with answering calls, fundraising, recruitment, training and more.
