Would you call Bristol stylish? Some of the locals’ fashion choices might convince you otherwise, but the buildings are undeniably beautiful, colourful and, even, fashionable. But depending on where you are in the city, you’ll find a varied-looking city. So where is the most stylish place to live in Bristol?
Last year, Clifton topped Furniturebox’s annual list (also coming in 29th on the national list). But in 2024, a more surprising inclusion took home the crown. Redland, according to a new poll, is officially the most stylish location in the city listed – beating Henleaze (2), Clifton (3), Bishopston (4) and Leigh Woods (5).
Findings come from a survey of 5,000 people, including local polling in Bristol, with locations ranked according to the beauty of the buildings, the stunning scenery, how ‘Instagrammable’ were its best features and their popularity as a filming location. Redland also came 43rd on the list of the 60 most stylish places in the UK.
Tucked between Whiteladies Road and Gloucester Road, Redland is where a “vibrant family life coexists harmoniously with student life, parks, retail and chic restaurants in Redland.” It’s also been used as a filming location in countless TV shows, such as The Girl Before, The Outlaws and A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder.
“Redland is the most stylish place to live in Bristol,” a Furniturebox spokesperson said. “All 60 places on the list would have been worthy winners and show why the UK is such a stylish country, loved by artists, filmmakers and tourists from all over the world. What is interesting is how influential Instagram has become in boosting tourism in many of our top 60, particularly around Bristol.
“It is a massive help for visitor numbers, too, if a popular film or TV show uses a town or village as a location. Most of the locations in the top 60 are not the most affluent or fashionable in their localities. It shows that style can be achieved whatever your budget – and that is very true of furniture.”
What are the best things to do in Redland?
Often overlooked by its neighbours, this affluent area is largely known as a residential spot – but this makes it ideal for lots of little hidden gems. Some of the best restaurants in Bristol can be found in Redland. Including the farm-to-table, Michelin Green Star spot, Wilsons (and hangover-curing bakery), which keeps winning accolade after accolade.
Elsewhere, tuck into one best roast dinners you’ve ever had at The Kensington Arms; fresh artisan pasta at Little Hollows; or a quick (but moreish) pizza from Pizzarova. With the Downs on your doorstep, you can as easily grab a bottle of wine from Corks of Cotham and unwind… Or get your nails done at Kabuki and grab a pint at The Good Measure.
