The team over at Tare really like to keep us on our toes, don’t they? First, there was Tare, then Picole, which became Tare Bistro, and now we’re getting Tare Bar. Honestly, though, we’ve fallen in love with whatever they’ve put out though – and now that it’s officially open, we can tell you we feel no differently about this new independent bar.
Just a stone’s throw away from the intimate restaurant, Tare Bistro, where you can tuck into a selection of sharing plates or a five-course “Chef’s Selection Menu”, Tare Bar caters to a more bustling clientele at Cargo 2. The sister site is ideal for those seeking out selected wines, locally sourced spirits, moreish bar snacks and a welcoming atmosphere.
While maintaining a high-quality focus on food and drinks that Tare is known for, the Harbourside spot – open Wednesday to Saturday evenings – aims to be a little more, laidback, fun and (dare I say it) vibey. With an inviting modern interior, Tare Bar is the brainchild of founder and chef, Matt Hampshire, who spent the past year perfecting the concept.
“We wanted to create a fun space that feels a little like home, but with the exceptional quality that you’d expect from Tare and everything we’re known for,” says Matt. “Whether you’re here for a casual catch-up with friends or raise a glass to a special occasion, Tare Bar will be the place on the harbour where people can unwind, come together and tuck into something truly different to what else is on offer in the area.”
Tare Bar’s menu includes a regularly rotating, handpicked wine list – each available by the glass – alongside a carefully curated selection of signature cocktails and drinks from many local distilleries and breweries. Plus, a wide variety of no and low-alcoholic alternatives. You’ll also find a bar food menu filled with things like glazed stuffed chicken wings, tempura oyster mushrooms and pork belly skewers, to name a few.
To celebrate its opening at Wapping Wharf, Tare Bar is hosting a series of events, and kicked off with celebrating the on-trend wine moment, Beaujolais Nouveau Day last week, with further events to come in the new year, including live music and tastings with a twist.
