When you make history at the Grammy Awards, becoming the first artist to win Album Of The Year four times, it’s probably cause for a special bit of news. That’s how Taylor Swift’s mind works, anyway, as she took that opportunity to announce the upcoming release of her 11th studio album, which is titled The Tortured Poets Department.
Winning the Album Of The Year award for her previous album, Midnights (2022), it also marked her 13th Grammy overall, which in turn led to speculation of a forthcoming announcement since this is Swift’s lucky number. Fans posited the idea of a release for Reputation (Taylor’s Version) another record in the series of re-recordings of the singer’s first six studio albums. This was incorrect. A new, new album is on the way this year.
Taylor Swift’s Album Of The Year victory makes history, following her previous victories for Fearless (2008), 1989 (2014), and Folklore (2020). She was previously tied with Stevie Wonder, Paul Simon, and Frank Sinatra on three wins each in this category.
When is The Tortured Poets Department coming out?
April 19, 2024 is the date to note down in your Taylor Swift calendars… which should already have plenty of dates circled given her ‘Eras’ tour plans in later this year.
She took to social media to share an image of the album cover, with a caption reading: “All’s fair in love and poetry… New album THE TORTURED POETS DEPARTMENT. Out April 19 🤍 📷: @bethgarrabrant.”
After her win was announced, Swift also revealed that this record is two years in the making. Collecting the award from fellow superstar Celine Dion, she said: “I want to say thank you to the fans by telling you a secret I’ve been keeping from you for the last two years, which is that brand new album comes out April 19. It’s called The Tortured Poets Department.”
What do we know about The Torutred Poets Department so far?
Not much. This is brand! new! information! after all. But a glance at Taylor Swift’s website (which sent excitement levels into overdrive as it ‘crashed’ last night ahead of the new revamp) tells us that the new record will be 16 tracks long, with many versions including a bonus track named The Manuscript. No other song titles have been announced as of yet.
You can pre-order a host of different editions of The Tortured Poets Department via the website now.
Taylor Swift tour dates?

But for those last stragglers, here’s a reminder that Taylor Swift will be in Cardiff on June 18. She will also play Wembley Stadium EIGHT times this summer. Want tickets?
