There are also plans to serve hot spiced cider during the colder months.
Cider. Some might say it’s one of the best things to come out of Bristol and Somerset- and they’re not wrong! Luckily, lovers of the crisp, golden liquid will soon be able to get their hands on a pint or two of the good stuff, and in slushie form too, this summer down at the harbour.
Following on from new openings such as Dog Town and Loki Poke, The Cider Box, is opening its second site in the city at harbourside shipping container development Cargo. The craft cider makers submitted a licensing application last month and now it is opening a site at Wapping Wharf this August.
Customers will be able to pick up bottles of cider made by the finest regional and international producers to take away, or drink it on site at one of the outdoor tables. The Cider Box will also be offering unbelievable and refreshing tipples such as craft cider slushies made with Somerset cider brandy, as well as hot spiced cider to warm Bristolians up during the colder months.
Cider Box founder Dan Heath describes the cider slushies as “out of this world” and said they will be made using fresh pressed cider, not from concentrate, straight out of Glastonbury. The owner will be opening its new premises at Cargo 2 in Wapping Wharf on August 26, shortly after Bristol Cider Week which starts on August 14, then it will be open from Wednesday to Sunday, 12pm-7pm, onwards.
The Cider Box’s popular taproom in St Philip’s is expected to remain open alongside the sister site at Wapping Wharf and is set to host a number of events over the summer including a North vs South cider tasting on August 12. The event features four generous pours of the finest ciders from both corners of the country.
The Bristol cider tap room also offers a sunset boat cruise in partnership with Bristol Ferry Boat. The cruise lasts an hour and a half and takes you for a gentle meander up Bristol’s harbour with tunes in the background, cider in hand (of course) as well as plenty of cheese to soak it all up.
The Cider Box will be taking the unit formerly home to Loop Massage, which is relocating from Cargo 2 to a bigger unit on the ground floor of Hope Quay along Rope Walk, also at Wapping Wharf.
