Pack up a picnic, gather your blankets and camping chairs, and warm up those vocal cords. Adventure Cinema is coming to Queen Square in the city centre this August for a series of outdoor cinema screenings. Some of our favourite modern musicals will be showing. So it’s guaranteed to be a sing-a-long affair all weekend.
The travelling cinema will tour the UK to some of Britain’s most beautiful outdoor locations. Setting up at venues as special and different as medieval castles and country estates. The spot chosen in Bristol is no different.
Nestled between the Harbourside and Old City, Queen Square is surrounded by some of Bristol’s beautiful building – including one of the oldest churches in England, St Mary Redcliffe Church. It is the perfect pitch for a picnic cinema experience, with its lush green lawn and wide open sky to enjoy a movie or two beneath the sun or stars.
For those who love a feel-good film, five modern musical masterpieces will screen on the lawn within the square. On August 4, watch Matilda The Musical, while August 5 will see a double-header of The Greatest Showman singalong and Mamma Mia! If you haven’t destroyed your voice with all that singing by the Sunday, Disney’s Encanto and Baz Luhrmann’s Elvis will show on August 6.
Don’t worry if music isn’t your thing. Adventure Cinema has something for the dads too. Top Gun: Maverick, the 2022 sequel to the 80’s classic, will show on August 4. Giving you a second chance to relive all the action on the big screen one more time.
The cinematic picnic will arrive from August 4 to 6, so it won’t hang around for long. But from there it will move to the 19th century manor house Clevedon Hall in Somerset from August 21 to 22, playing Elvis and Dirty Dancing respectively. Adventure Cinema will then continue its journey around the country across over 70 picturesque locations.
