If Heaven really is a place on Earth, then there’s a good chance it’s by the beach. Golden-white sands, skin-kissing sunshine, and crystal clear waves lapping up on the shore, where else would you rather spend eternity? And you can get to this beautiful beach with the ‘whitest sand in Europe’ with a direct flight from Bristol.
The London-based travel agency for luxury villas, CV Villas, has carried out a study to find the beaches with the whitest sand in the world. It’s looked at over 200 beaches, using colour analysis theory and Google Maps, to find out which beaches truly are the heavenliest – with the number one spot being Tulum Beach in Mexico.
You won’t be able to get there easily, unfortunately, with it taking well over a day to travel by plane (up to 28 hours) and at least one layover to the ancient Mayan port city of Tulum. Second place is slightly easier and should take about half the time (roughly 14 hours) to Anse Source D’Argent in the Seychelles.
But, if you’d rather stick to Europe, third place in Greece should offer a place of pristine white shores. You’ll find Marmari Beach on the island of Kos, which you can fly directly to from Bristol Airport in less than four hours. From there, it’s only a 15-minute drive to the whitest sand beach in Europe.
How were the whitest sand beaches chosen?
Using ‘colour theory’, CV Villas took Google Maps images of 200 global beaches and compared their shores to the whitest white’s RGB colour code (aka #FFFFFF). Marmari Beach in Kos was just 6.5 points off the purest shade of white – compared to Anse Source D’Argent (4.3 points) and Tulum Beach (1.4 points)
What is Marmari Beach like?
Looking out across the Aegean Sea, Marmari sits on the northern coast of the island. About 3 miles west of Kos Town. The coastal village is home to plenty of cafes, cocktail bars, and tavernas to keep you refreshed – but it’s really all about those azure waters and snow-like sand.
Stretching for miles either way, the beach offers everything from watersports to sunbathing, while shallow waters close to shore make it family-friendly too. It’s also not very far from Alikes Salt Lakes (Igroviotopos Alikis). This is home to some incredible wildlife throughout the year – including sea turtles, sea snakes and, if you believe me, flamingos.
