Breakfast: The most important meal of the day. Whether healing from a hangover or fueling the mind and body for a busy active day, what you choose to eat is so important. But, from pancakes to granola, a full English or avocado on toast, we only care that you pick the breakfast that’s right for you. That’s why we’ve rounded up the very best breakfast spots in Bristol to kickstart your morning
1. The Crafty Egg
After a soul-saving breakfast in Bristol? Local favourite, The Crafty Egg should be everyone’s go-to stop for the ideal breakfast item, eggs. With its own twist on the full English (with options for meat eaters, veggies and vegans), as well as everything from pancakes to potato hash, a bacon brioche or ‘eggs any way’, you’ll find the perfect wake-up at this cosy Stoke Croft spot – there are locations in Fishponds and St George too.
The Crafty Egg, 113 Stokes Croft, Bristol, BS1 3RW
203-207 Church Road, St George, Bristol, BS5 9HL
780 Fishponds Road, BS163TT
2. The Bristolian
It’s not a story I want to go into here, but The Bristolian breakfast once saved my life. And, if its restorative powers don’t convince you to check it out, nothing I say will. This walk-in-only Montpelier cafe adds Mediterranean flavours to classic British breakfasts, with the likes of tostadas tomato, muesli, and eggs benedict all on the menu.
Most unique to the breakfast options is The Bristolian Fusion, however, consisting of eggs, chorizo, minty yoghurt, spicy fresh salsa, flatbread, garlic mushrooms, sun blush tomatoes, sesame-infused spinach and crispy potatoes. On top, you’ll find fresh orange juice, homemade lemonade, kombucha and smoothies, as well as your normal coffees. It’s also particularly pretty, filled with houseplants everywhere!
The Bristolian, 2 Picton Street, Montpelier, Bristol BS6 5QA
3. The Garden of Easton
The atmosphere is everything when it comes to breakfast spots. You want to start your day right, don’t you? Nowhere nails it better than The Garden of Easton. Here, houseplants fill the corners, dangle overhead, and even climb the outside walls. But it’s not all about its rustic and jungle-like decor. This sunlit, plant-filled eatery serves everything from full English breakfast to spicy Turkish eggs and Japanese okonomiyaki pancakes.
The Garden of Easton, 89 St Marks Rd, Easton, Bristol BS5 6HY
4. Lonely Mouth
Lonely Mouth doesn’t do breakfast like other places in Bristol. Welcome to the city’s first Japanese listening cafe on Gloucester Road, where you can pop in for a traditional Japanese breakfast. Or tuck into thick custardy, French toast served with raspberries. Plus, it’s always playing banging tunes.
Lonely Mouth, 401 Gloucester Rd, Horfield, Bristol BS7 8TS
5. Primrose Cafe
Primrose Cafe has been one of Bristol’s most beloved cafes for nearly 30 years. With a huge menu, with almost everything made on-site, you’ll find something for everyone at this suntrapped spot. The Full Monty is a steal coming with two poached eggs, two rashers bacon, two sausages, two portobello mushrooms, baked beans, a grilled tomato, a hash brown and sourdough toast (there’s a veggie and vegan version too).
But your breakfast options are far from over there at this Clifton hotspot. You’ve got egg muffins, salmon bagels, Belgian waffles, buttermilk pancakes, kedegree and bubble & squeak. Plus, it’s got one of Bristol’s more unique breakfasts in huevos rancheros (any Breaking Bad fans in Bristol?), a Mexican-style eggs and chorizo dish. And we haven’t even got time to talk about all the lunch options!
The Primrose Café, 1 Boyce’s Ave, Clifton, Bristol BS8 4AA
6. The Sundial Kitchen
Calling all veggies and vegans: this is the best meat-free breakfast in Bristol. The vegetarian-focused cafe – using only seasonal, local and organic produce – is serving some unique options you won’t find elsewhere in the city. Tuck into everything from kimchi fried rice to French toast, sauerkraut and ricotta pancakes or simple granola.
Meanwhile, the Big Sundial Brunch comes with fried eggs, sticky tamari greens, smokey baked beans, garlic Portobello mushroom, confit potato cake, and baby tomatoes (and halloumi for an extra £1.60). But there are plenty of other brunch options too, like patatas a lo pobre or Turkish eggs, as well as comforting toasties. You can check out more here.
The Sundial Kitchen, 1 William St, Totterdown, Bristol BS3 4TU
7. The Bristol Loaf
This award-winning Bristol bakery is perfect if all you want is a coffee and a pastry for breakfast, but you’ll also find everything from bacon sarnies and poached eggs on sourdough toast to a range of Scandi-inspired brunch items. There are three Bristol Loaf locations, each offering something a little different from one another (head to Bedminster for Detroit pizza, or the Beacon for a roast), so all are worth checking out if you have the time.

Bristol Beacon, Lower Ground Floor, Trenchard Street, Bristol BS1 5AR

Not a morning person? Flour House will brighten up your day with its vibrant surroundings and sensational breakfasts. Whether it’s a simple homemade granola or a stack of banana pancakes, you’ll leave with a smile on your face. Breakfast classics, like a full English or smashed peas on toast, feature, but you’re spoilt for choice with its range of breakfast brioche baps. It’s dog-friendly (and people-friendly) too!
Flour House, 10 Park Row, Bristol BS1 5LJ
9. Burra
Founded by two Bristol Bears teammates, Burra brings Antipodean vibes (that’s Australia and New Zealand to you and me) to Bristol. Using only ingredients sourced within 25 miles of the city, sustainability is at the heart of this cafe, while serving up plenty of healthy-ish breakfast items. Tuck into every king of breakfast eggs imaginable, as well as diverse staples such as shakshuka, rice bowls, and brekkie buns.
