On Monday (September 23), nearly 300 of the biggest names in beer, brewing and hospitality descended upon The Business Design Centre in London. They were there to celebrate and recognise the UK’s very best in beer – with one Bristol-based brewery coming home with the biggest prize.
Tim Sheahan, editor of The Brewers Journal, commented: “It has been another testing period for businesses involved in the brewing sector but at The Brewers Journal our raison d’être is to champion the industry and play our small part in sharing and celebrating the incredible knowledge, skills and expertise that this sector has in abundance.”
Wiper and True won ‘Brewery of the Year’, as well as ‘Sustainability Champion’, at the Brewers Choice Awards 2024. Having started over a decade ago, the Bristol brewery is known across the city for its hoppy craft beer and iconic white cans. It even has its own Taproom in Old Market and neighbourhood bar in St Werburghs (The Barrel Store).
You’ll likely find Wiper and True stocked in many pubs, bars and bottle shops around Bristol. Its flagship pale ale, Kaleidoscope is now even stocked in many supermarkets in the South West, like Waitrose, Sainsbury’s and Tesco Extra. Meanwhile, the brewery is on target to reach Net Zero by 2030 -having recently installed technology to reuse carbon dioxide, and cover the roof with solar panels.
Michael Wiper, founder of Wiper and True, said: “These awards mean a huge amount to us, and give recognition to our team that’ve been working so hard behind-the-scenes to achieve great things. The exciting thing for us is that we know this is just the beginning!”
The Brewers Journal aims to recognise the diversity and quality of the UK craft beer and brewing scene, with breweries judged by an expert panel across a range of categories. To see the full list of winners from the Brewers Choice Awards 2024 head here.
