What sort of crisp buyer are you at the pub? The type who selflessly buys three packs, splits the bag wide open, and places them in the centre of the table for all to share; or are you the kind who hogs your favourite flavour safely in your lap and, maybe, only shares with those that politely asks three times?
However you eat your crisps, there is no better compliment to a pub trip. And it appears, no one understands this better than The Robin Hood on St Michael’s Hill. The Bristol pub is hosting the inaugural Independent Crisp Tasting Championships on Saturday, November 2 – and you’re invited to try all the packets.
Forget Walkers and Pringles, the focus is on “independent crisps” – with The Robin Hood aiming to celebrate independent food and drink producers that offer “something truly special and uniquely British.” The Championships will include a diverse selection of crisps from over 30 UK independent brands, like Savoursmiths, The British Crisp Co., Made for Drink, Nim’s, and Wholesome Crunch.
What can I expect from the Bristol Independent Crisp Tasting Championships?
The event kicks off at 4pm. That’s when you’ll be free to get involved in a public tasting session, sample crisps from each brand and vote for your favourites. Special guest judges from Bristol’s food and drink scene will also be in attendance to crown the ‘Best Independent Crisp’. Plus, there’ll be categories for everything from ‘Most Unique Flavour’ to ‘Best Spicy Crisp’ and more!
“We’re thrilled to be hosting this unique event that shines a light on the incredible quality and variety of independent crisps available in the UK,” said Courtney Salmon, co-owner of The Robin Hood Pub. “It’s a chance for people to come together, taste something new, and support small producers making a big impact.”
During the Independent Crisp Tasting Championships, The Robin Hood will also serve live music performances, flowing drinks from the bar, and a passionate community of savoury snack enthusiasts. To learn more about The Robin Hood head here.
