1. Christmas at Westonbirt

Westonbirt, The National Arboretum, one of the world’s most important plant collections, is transformed this Christmas (November 28 to December 31). The much-loved illuminated trail hosts an array of new installations inspired by wildlife, woodland and the changing seasons—from a fibre optic network of colour-changing mushrooms to giant wicker woodland animals nestled amongst the trees.

2. Luminate

Having welcomed over a million visitors at sites across the UK since 2019, Luminate brightens up Ashton Court with a stunning new mile-long illuminated journey (November 28 to December 28). Luminate’s mesmerising trail features stunning light elements and interactive light play, all set to a beautiful soundtrack.
Just one of the installations sees 4,000 illuminated roses change colour in a display set to a medley of music. Another includes the Mirrorball Alley, creating the perfect photo opportunities, while interactive elements like joysticks and the retro game Simon Says keep everyone engaged. Plus, ‘Make a Wish’ by writing down your heart’s desire—the Luminate fairies will be lookingto make a lucky visitor’s dream come true.

3. The Festival of Light

Longleat’s legendary lantern trail, The Festival of Light, returns with a little help from Bristol’s very own Wallace and Gromit. Your favourite Aardman characters are visiting the UK’s most famous landmarks remade in lantern form—including Tower Bridge, Stonehenge and Giant’s Causeway (November 8, 2025, to January 11, 2026).
This year, Longleat’s Festival of Light will also be celebrating one of the GREATEST Britons of all time, Jane Austen, with a focus on writers, British native wildlife and landscapes, as well as iconic singers through the decades. Meanwhile, don’t forget to visit Longleat House, either, which has been transformed by traditional festive decorations.

The Spectacle of Light returns for an after-dark experience at Sudeley Castle. This year, discover the Court of King Arthur on this after-dark adventure around the magical castle grounds. Meet mythical characters from the Arthurian legend, such as Guinevere, Lancelot and the magician, Merlin; and unearth the hidden location of Arthur’s great sword, Excalibur. Is it in the stone or in the lake?

5. Old Down’s Illumination Trail

The Illumination Trail at Old Down is taking a brand new direction—with a new route full of glowing walkways, sparkling installations, and its very own Christmas Village (December 6 to 28). Meanwhile, The Adventure Park will be lit up for even more twilight adventures for little ones, while festive market stalls will be overfloweth with seasonal gifts.

6. Wookey Hole’s Winter Wonderland

Head deep into the caves of Wookey Hole this Christmas, where over 100,000 lights magically illuminate the way. 8. Christmas at The Palace

The Bishop’s Palace is well worth making the trip to Wells for this Christmas (November 29, 2025, to January 4, 2026). The mesmerising lantern tree is a dazzling affair, while the Palace’s interiors are adorned with festive decorations.
