Supporting independent producers is something we love to see at Secret Bristol. Few do it better than Food Shop though. (It’s a name that makes it a pain to Google, but perfectly describes what it does.) This purveyor of independent goods off of Gloucester Road dedicates itself to supporting the very best of Bristol’s, the South West’s and beyond’s best products.
Step inside this tiny but charming store on North Road and you’ll find everything from hot sauces to craft beers, farmhouse cheeses to sourdough loaves. That’s before we get onto the stranger and more unique stock like black garlic bulbs, plum wine, spiced sauerkraut, and a variety of eyebrow-raising spiced blends. Honestly? We’ll be surprised if you’ve heard of more than half the products on the shelves at Food Shop.
It looks like we’ll soon be expecting even more surprises at Food Shop, however. It’s on the move a few metres along taking over the spot formally held by El Colmado (which recently also just moved up the road). Expect the addition of a toastie and coffee machine in it’s new home. Food Shop will continue to “stock everyday food products, that are well made, have good provenance and are of the best quality” as well.
“After two years trading in this tiny yet lovely little room I am pleased to announce FOOD SHOP is moving to a bigger premises,” said Darren Tooley, owner of Food Shop. “Thank you to everyone who has supported the shop, I have thoroughly enjoyed meeting and chatting with all of my customers and suppliers and look forward to welcoming you all into the new gaff.”
The old shop’s last day of trading will be April 15 with it’s new location expected to open shortly after at 57 Gloucester Road. To learn more about Food Shop and its stock head here.
