Someone had a brainwave the day they thought of the Greggs drive-thru. Whoever decided to take the tasty satisfaction of Greggs and add even more convenience – like you can’t already find the bakery chain on every British high street – was a genius. Whether it’s a quick trip to the supermarket or a long-haul drive across the country, now you can get your hands on their iconic sausage roll without stepping out of the car.
The first Greggs drive-thru opened at the Irlam Gateway Service Station in Manchester in 2017. Since then more than a dozen have popped up across the UK, mostly in the North and Midlands. But until recently, the only southern drive-through was an hour away in Trowbridge. But no more!
Because a Greggs drive-thru opened in Bristol yesterday (March 18). The idea had been floated since 2017, while planning permission was granted for one in Emersons Green in 2023. But the first drive-through for this legendary bakery in Bristol opened at Cribbs Causeway, next to Costa Coffee on Merlin Road, opposite the Mall.
“Our new drive thru in Bristol has brought 15 new jobs to the local area, as well as providing customers with a modern, convenient new place to experience their favourite Greggs food,” said Gillian Long, retail operations director for Greggs. It’s open all day too, from 6am to 7pm on Monday to Thursday, and 6am to 8pm on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
So, what does the Greggs drive-thru offer? Just like any normal branch, you can get your hands on all your favourite bakes, sandwiches, sausage rolls, doughnuts, coffees and more. The only difference is that you don’t have to get out of the car to order, pay or collect, “where your flakey faves will be ready and waiting for you.”
