Two Bristol burger businesses have been officially ranked as some of the best in the UK, joining 14 other burger restaurants in the country at the National Burger Awards. Squeezed and Danny’s Burgers have been selected for their drool-worthy burgers, and they will be invited down to London to take part in an epic cook-off, which will see popular burger joints such as London’s Bleeker, Burger & Lobster, Dirty Bones and MEATliquor fight for this year’s crown.
The tasty cook-off will consist of three rounds, where finalists will firstly be required to cook their own burger in front of the judges, before creating a technical burger made up from a specific selection of ingredients that will be supplied on the day. An additional round will also require finalists to produce a meat-free burger. A panel of judges (who we’re well jel of) will taste each and every burger, before deciding who to crown champion on the day.
After winning the Burger Chef of the Year award at last year’s National Burger Awards, Danny’s Burgers, will be returning to the competition in a bid to win with their Beef Chucky 2.0 burger. And the beauty of Danny’s Burgers is that you’re unlikely to have the same burger twice as they are constantly creating new and exciting specials.
Danny’s Burgers began as a passion project off the back of winning Grillstock 2017, which lead them to start making their signature cali style high grade smash burgers during the first lockdown. Now, Danny’s Burgers can be found flipping their much-loved burgers at different street food markets and pop-ups across the Bristol area including New Bristol Brewery and St Nick’s Market.
As for Squeezed, the national award winning burger restaurant (yes, that’s right they’ve won the award before) is squeezed into two converted shipping containers at Bristol’s Wapping Wharf. Their flipping adventure began back in the summer of 2017, and from then on Bristolians and visitors to the city have been flocking to the harbourside to get their mitts on one of their burgers alongside their refreshing homemade lemonade.
Last year saw Squeezed launch their own hot dog and beer slushie business at Wapping Wharf, Dog Town, and if they’re anything like their burgers…well, they’re top notch. In 2021, Squeezed’s St Werburger (a double beef patty with cheese, smoked bacon, caper aioli, chipotle ketchup and confit shallots) made the final but this year it’s their Nimzo burger up for the award.
The National Burger Awards will take place on 20 April 2022 in London.
