Being so close to the coast, there are some brilliant beaches near Bristol. But let’s be honest, none can compete with the sandy shores found in Australia. Least of all Byron Bay, where the cafe Nook was dreamt up by owner Millie Clifford, while eating breakfast bowls and drinking cold press juices. This Aussie-influenced coffee shop gives a lovely nod to those wonderful coastal cafes.
Opening in Bedminster earlier this year, the focus at Nook is very much on serving healthy and colourful food. (Similar to that of Australia.) It has truly brightened up North Street’s brunch options, as it also takes influence from Japanese and Californian cuisine. Think things like ginger shots, smoothie bowls and chai tea…
This is Nook’s third site (with locations in Frome and Bath already) and is an ideal spot for those on a health kick unwilling to compromise on flavour. Its smoothies and smoothie bowls are big on boasting about the superfoods they contain – from acai to spirulina, pea protein to maca, they’ll have you fighting fit for the rest of the day.
But it’s Nook’s poke bowls that have caught our eye… These Hawaiian-inspired rice bowls (which are by no means easy to track down in Bristol) have become our ideal brunch choice. This jumble sale of fresh and healthy ingredients contains all the nutrients and falvours your body is screaming out for! Try the traditional sashimi salmon in a soy sauce bowl, with broccoli, edamame, kimchi, spring onions, pickled ginger, spinach and nori, all on sticky brown rice.
There are also plenty of vegan options too, including tofu or balsamic beetroot bowls. If you fancy something far simpler, however, you could just grab a hot mug of miso broth instead. You’ll find that Nook is pretty inclusive to most diets. It’s completely gluten-free and mostly dairy free, while plant based options fill most of the menu.
There’s even some wiggle room for those with a sweet tooth at breakfast time. Out tip? Try the toasted banana bread, which comes served with coconut yogurt, maple syrup, and blueberry compote. While the homemade cakes are simply devine.
Who says being healthy has to be boring? Nook is a refreshing addition to Bristol and embraces the coastal vibes in Bedminster. You can learn more about Nook here.
