Looking for things to do with kids in Bristol is never a difficult task. And one of the city’s top activities has long been Bristol Zoo (which moved to and morphed with the Wild Place Project in 2022). It’s always full of excitement – from cheetahs to children’s play areas – but if you haven’t been in a while, get down this March.
Throughout the month (until Sunday, March 28), Bristol Zoo Project is running a ‘Pay What You Can’ initiative. During this period, the entry price to the zoo is dropping to just £0.01 – with any amount on top of this seen as a donation to the Bristol Zoological Society. The suggested donation is half-price, but “if this is out of reach for you right now, you can pay less, no questions asked.” The ‘Pay What You Can’ scheme is only available at the door after 2PM.
With the last entry to the zoo at 3PM, closing at 4PM, you’ll have to rush downy. It’s highly recommended you visit Bear Wood on your visit as soon as you arrive – as exploring the habitat takes 45 minutes. Here, you’ll meet four European brown bears living alongside wolves, lynxes and wolverines as you wind through 7.5 acres of ancient woodland on raised walkways.
While these bears are at a low risk of extinction in the wild, habitats like these are in danger. Only 2% of Britain’s ancient woodland has survived being cut down, which offers homes for more threatened species such as tawny owls and hedgehogs. Your donations to the conservation and education charity can help save wildlife around the world – and don’t forget to Gift Aid!
What else is there to do at Bristol Zoo Project?
When it comes to the animals (on top of those mentioned), you’ll have the chance to spot giraffes, lemurs, goats, meerkats, red pandas, zebras and more in Bristol. Your little ones will also be free to race to the middle of the wild hedge butterfly maze; clamber over the three-storey play tower with slides, rope jungles and climbing wall; and feel the dirt between their toes on a barefoot trail.
