Setting off on its maiden voyage in 1845, Brunel’s iconic SS Great Britain went on to sail around the world more than 32 times, for over a million miles. But the once largest ship in the world now sits as the backdrop of Bristol’s newest restaurant on the historic harbourside.
The Board Walk, an all-day dining destination serving fresh, locally inspired dishes, is inspired by the SS Great Britain’s history—the interiors showcase reclaimed wood from the original vessel and framed historical photographs celebrating its legacy. Enjoy banquette seating, bistro tables, and a spacious terrace with waterside views.
The Board Walk has been created through a partnership between SS Great Britain Trust and Elior UK, with a percentage of profits helping support the conservation of the SS Great Britain. Jonathan Higgins, general manager, said: “We wanted The Board Walk to feel like a true part of Bristol’s buzzing food scene – a place where people can come together over great food and drink in a setting unlike anywhere else in the city.”
What’s on the menu?

With a ‘Best of Bristol’ menu making the most of the region’s produce, tuck into Bristol cider braised chorizo, beef and Bristol beer pie and grilled squash brushed with spiced Bristol rum glaze. Or what about Somerset charcuterie, Wookey Hole croquettes and ham hock terrine with Wiltshire apple & cider brandy chutney?
Be it bar snacks or sharing boards, cooked breakfasts or light lunches, or homemade cakes and locally roasted coffee from Bristol’s own Wogan (as well as a slice of Wogan coffee tiramisu), there’s something for everyone. In the evenings, sip on cocktails, local beers from Bristol Brewing Company and a curated English and European wine list.
