We’ve had more than our fair share of Old Fashioneds in our time. We’re sure the mixologists of Bristol have made enough to fill the River Avon too. But we doubt anyone’s attempt to make (or drink) one this big. As KIBOU attempts to make the world’s largest Old Fashioned over August Bank Holiday Weekend.
In collaboration with Dirty Bird, Catley’s Bakery and Discover Clifton (Clifton Village’s Business Improvement District), the Japanese restaurant and bar will be throwing a street party on King’s Road on August 27. The party will run from 12 pm to 10 pm and will feature live bands and DJs throughout the day.
Pop-up bars will serve draught Kirin, cocktails, spirits and softs too, while you can fill up on KIBOU’s Japanese street food and baked goods from Catley’s. But the big star of the event will be The Guinness World Record attempt at creating ‘the world’s largest Old Fashioned’. This record-breaking cocktail will see KIBOU’s drinks specialist, Benjamin Salguero, muddling up a 250-litre Old Fashioned, using Maker’s Mark bourbon, sugar, water and some specially created Japanese-infused bitters.
The attempt will kick off at 12.30 pm on King’s Road. Glasses of this ‘record-winning’ classic cocktail will then be available to purchase for £8 at the street party, as well across all KIBOU Restaurants in the days following. There will also be a dedicated ‘flavour bar’ where you can customise your Old Fashioned to suit your palate, with the addition of pineapple, raspberry and yuzu.
“Creating the world’s largest Old Fashioned at our annual street party is going to add a real sense of theatre and fun to the event, and hopefully the opportunity for everyone involved to be part of a little bit of history,” said Benjamin Salguero, Deputy Manager at KIBOU Japanese Kitchen & Bar. “We’re going to be adding our own little Japanese twist to this classic drink for the occasion too, through the addition of a specially curated selection of Japanese bitters to really make this attempt unique.”
Whether you enjoy an Old Fashioned or not, the August Bank Holiday Street Party is not one to be missed. Head down to be a part of history for a fun day of drinking, eating and entertainment! To learn more about KIBOU head here.
