Finding good coffee in Bristol isn’t difficult these days. North or south of the river, every neighbourhood has at least one cafe that can meet a coffee aficionado’s needs – with many independent coffee shops having gained an almost cult-like following. But what are the most popular coffee shops in Bristol?
Betway has analysed data from Instagram, TikTok and Google of over 300 independent cafes and coffee roasters in the UK to uncover the most popular around the country. Two Bristol coffee shops cracked the top 10 – Society Cafe (6), which has two locations on Narrow Quay and Baldwin Street, and Origin Coffee Roasters (7), which opened its first Bristol cafe in Redcliffe last year.
Society Cafe opened its first coffee shop in Bath over 10 years ago, before expanding into Bristol in 2017 and opening a second in 2022 (it also has sites in Oxford and Cheltenham). The award-winning, family-run cafe specialises in local and regional roasters, including Bath’s Round Hill and Cornwall’s Origin (awkward), as well as speciality loose-leaf teas, and pastries from local bakeries like Bath’s Bertinet Bakery.
As the sixth most popular independent cafe in the UK, it received almost 145,200 global searches per year and 309,200 thousand TikTok views. This is followed by Origin Coffee Roasters – one of the longest-standing speciality coffee roasters in the UK – in seventh place, with 118,800 Google searches and 143,800 TikTok views.
Founded in 2004, Origin has five sites in the UK, but its first outside of Cornwall and London only opened in Bristol last October. The multi-award-winning roaster’s ethos is to source incredible and sustainable single-origin coffee. Located on Victoria Street, its industrial aesthetic serves not only as a cafe but as a coffee education space too.
The most popular independent cafe in the UK, and fourth in the world, with over 1 million TikTok views and almost 400,000 Google searches, was Manchester’s Federal – with four locations around the city. It was followed by three in London (Ozone Coffee Roasters, Feya and Daisy Green). Onibus Coffee in Tokyo is the most popular coffee shop in the world with over 82,000 Instagram hashtags.
